DECL — a website built for a firm that had never needed one before.

Diligent Environmental Consultancy Limited, a Kenyan firm specialising in Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and Environmental Audit (EA).

The situation.

DECL's founder, Godfrey Njugi, had built a real consultancy practice with no online presence and no organic lead channel — new work came entirely through referral and direct relationships. ESIA and EA are high-consideration, search-led purchases: a procurement officer, a developer, or an NGO looking for a licensed environmental consultant is exactly the kind of buyer who searches for one and converts from what they find. Without a site, that entire channel was closed off.

What I did.

I designed and built the site from a blank slate: a structure organised around what DECL actually does — ESIA, Environmental Audit, and the specific regulatory work under each — rather than a generic "services" page that tries to cover everything in one paragraph. Each service area got its own page, targeted at the specific terms a buyer searching for a licensed environmental consultant in Kenya would actually use.

On the technical side: clean URL structure from launch, schema markup identifying DECL as a professional service provider, a responsive build that works on the mobile connections most Kenyan searches happen on, and Google Analytics and Search Console configured before launch — not bolted on once someone asked whether it was working.

What happened.

The site has been live and indexed since 2023, giving DECL a findable presence for its specific service area that didn't exist before. What I don't have yet is a dated ranking export with named queries, or a sourced figure for how much of DECL's enquiry volume now comes through the site — so I'm not printing either here. A vague "ranks for most keywords" is a claim, not a result, and this is the page on the whole site that most needs to be trusted. When Godfrey and I pull a current Search Console export, the specific queries and positions will replace this paragraph.

What I'd do differently.

I'd have set up a lightweight way to track enquiry source from day one — even a simple "how did you hear about us" field — instead of relying on Godfrey's recollection months later. It's a small thing that would have made this exact case study easier to write honestly, sooner.
